 Domain Registration etc . . .

Description
A Domain Name, such as www.myBusiness.com.au or www.myService.com etc, gives your business or company its own professional identity and presence on the internet.

The different extensions help indicate to the world what sort of organisation you are.
.com /.net /.org domains is often associated with American companies
  - however in fact they are for global 'commercial' entities.
.com.au /.net.au /.org.au domains are clearly AUstralian focussed businesses.
[an AUS BN Registration Number, ABN or ACN etc are required]
.biz /.info have also become very popular and easily recognised global Domains recently

Once you decide on the name you want, an application to a 'registrar' is required to see if the name is available for you.
If it is, you typically need to organise for a Hosting Provider to configure a couple of 'name servers' to answer queries for that domain - ie assuming the responsibility of being "authoritative hosts" for the domain name.

AVIP can help you get the domain name you're after without you having to leap through hoops or worry with complex registry and "delegation" forms.
AVIP can take care of all the 'paper work' and hassle for registering your domain name, and let you get on with what you do best - running your business.
Please Note: If you have already registered a Domain Name and it needs to be "delegated" and hosted there may be a small additional handling charge for obtaining permissions, passwords and Reg Keys from the 'registrar' you used.
If the domain name that you have already registered requires configured Nameservers to respond to requests without hosting being set up at this point there may be a small charge for domain parking / mail forwarding. - If we register a Domain Name for you we offer FREE parking and mail forwarding until you are ready to have it hosted for your website !

New .au registrant transfers policy - will take effect on 1 June 2008

14/April/2008
In December 2007, the auDA Board approved a recommendation from the 2007 Names Policy Panel that the Transfers (Change of Registrant) Policy be relaxed to allow a registrant to transfer their domain name licence to another eligible entity, for any reason.
Key features of the new policy are as follows:

  • it will not be allowable to register a domain name for the sole purpose of resale or transfer to a third party
  • registrants will not be able to transfer their domain name for the first 6 months after the initial registration (this does not apply to domain names that have been renewed or previously transferred)
  • after 6 months, registrants will be able to offer their domain name for sale/transfer by any means (eg. by listing the domain name for sale on a domain brokerage website, advertising the domain name for sale in a newspaper, or contacting a prospective buyer directly)
  • the new registrant must comply with normal eligibility and allocation rules registrant transfers will be processed by the registrar of record using a standard transfer form, and the registrar may charge a transfer fee
  • parties to a transfer will be asked to disclose the sale method and price, on a voluntary and confidential basis, so that auDA may collect aggregated statistical data to improve access to market information for buyers and sellers.
  • Until the new policy takes effect on 1 June 2008, the current Transfers (Change of Registrant) Policy (2004-03) continues to apply. auDA will continue to investigate complaints about transfers that breach this policy.
NOTE: The Domain Name Server (DNS) controls which ISP or web hosting company is designated as the Primary and Secondary name server. This allows them to control where your domain will point to. If you are unsure about what DNS settings are or which once are required for our services - contact us.
IMPORTANT:
Changes to the DNS take time to propagate across the internet.
Please allow 24-72 hours for this to occur.
. . . . if in doubt call us first before you jump in and waste time & money ;-)

  . . . so you think you are ready? . . .
